Edward Valenzuela, MS

DSCB PhD Student

Edward earned his B.S. in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from UC Santa Cruz. After graduating, he spent several years in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry before completing his M.S. in Biomedical Science with a stem cell concentration at San Francisco State University. As a CIRM-Bridges Fellow, he conducted research in Dr. Elizabeth Crouch’s neurovascular development lab at UCSF, studying the differentiation potential of smooth muscle cells in the developing human brain. Now a PhD student in the Developmental and Stem Cell Biology program, Edward is co-mentored by Drs. Cathryn Cadwell and Jacob Young as he investigates how IDH-mutant and wildtype gliomas affect neural circuitry. Outside the lab, he enjoys fishing and spending time with his dogs on his family’s farm.
